It also highlights the locations of inmates. Objects of importance, such as control panels, air vents, switches, and other things that can help you progress are highlighted to help you notice them more easily. At the press of a button you can view your surroundings unlike any other normal human being. And that’s where Detective Mode comes in. Whether it be choking them from behind, hanging them from the ceiling or gliding down from above and kicking them in the head, the stealth element of this game will never get old and is a lot of fun if you’ve played other stealth titles such as Splinter Cell or Metal Gear Solid.īatman isn’t just a man who dresses up like a bat and fights crime, he’s also a detective. You can also use stealth to take down bad guys silently and effectively. Each hit you inflict on inmates is added to a counter in the top left of the screen which records how long a particular combo is, and it can get quite challenging, but fun to rank up 30-40 hits in a single combo.īut it’s not just fist fights that get you past the inmates. You can also use counter attacks to stop inmates from hitting you and then punish them for trying. When fighting crazed inmates, the trick is to chain together combos of punches, kicks, jumps, throws, etc. It’s simple, but bloody fun to play with. The combat system is one of the best ones I’ve ever seen. In my eyes it is broken into 2 categories – Combat and Exploration. Because it’s alphabetically before “graphics”? You decide! Anyway, the gameplay in Batman: Arkham Asylum is pretty darn fantastic. I’ll start with gameplay, I don’t know why. Speaking of supervillains, seeing as there are quite a few of them I will list all of them and review them individually. With the help of Harley Quinn and several other supervillains, he releases the imprisoned inmates and takes control of the whole asylum. Unfortunately he escapes just moments after you arrive, and it turns out that he’d be planning it for months. The game begins with Batman accompanying The Joker to the home of Gotham City’s criminally insane – Arkham Asylum. Remember the last Batman game, Batman Begins? *Shudders*. In the past, not a single game gave The Dark Knight as much justice as Arkham Asylum has.

I think from what we've seen so far, that also applies to Arkham Asylum.I found all 240 of The Riddler’s riddles today, whoop whoop! Anyway here’s my review.īatman: Arkham Asylum – PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.Įver since 1939, Batman has conquered the world of comic books, television shows, films and now finally video games. Perhaps some of the comics can have Robin, but Batman in Nolan's world or the more adult takes in print, Robin just isn't plausible or consistent. Half the reason for having a sidekick is to introduce comedy, light heartedness or the ability to have dialogue from the protagonist's point of view. The day Batman is unable to function without a sidekick is the day that Batman is unable to function, and would need to be brought down by higher forces than an orphan from the circus. Batman isn't an unrestrained vigilante who needs scaling back by a lesser trained boy, it's his ethics and his primary reason for becoming Batman in the first place are what drives him and anything else dilutes that. If Robin is a son figure then it's Wayne's ultimate responsibility not to go out at night putting both their lives in danger. Robin is a liability, the light in Batman's dark should be in his Bruce Wayne persona whether an outside influence or that human persona itself. Alfred is the father, Jim is the freind, Robin is the son they both act as anchors as Bruce takes his usual dive into the nightly madness. He's the light in Batmans dark, he routinely stops Batman from becoming a villain himself, he keeps him human, keeps him sane. Robin is quite essential, and he's always welcome, at the right time (the best writers know when to use him and when to keep him out of it).
